[NEWS] Idol Groups May Cause Downfall of ‘Hallyu’

It may not be an exaggeration to say that today’s Korean pop charts are literally “occupied” by boy bands and girl groups such as the Wonder Girls and TVXQ, whose members are in their late teens and early 20s and dance to computerized hip-hop music.

This trend is making it harder than ever to watch sophisticated performances by middle-aged artists on the small screen particularly during primetime hours.

Lim Jin-mo, one of the country’s most influential music critics, said the unbalanced exposure of singers to the media will undermine K-pop’s international competitiveness and eventually devastate the country’s breeding ground for young musical prodigies.

[NEWS] The Wonder Girls to Return to the States this Weekend

5-member girlgroup WonderGirls will be returning to the States again to resume their promotions there.

On 3rd November, a representative revealed, “The WonderGirls will returning to the States this weekend on either the 7th or 8th. After returning to the States, the girls will be doing interviews from magazines and newspapers as well as appear on TV shows.”

With this, the girls will be heading back to the States about 2 weeks after they have returned to Korea. The girls also did a 2D1N promotions in China during their stay in Korea.

If you go onto Billboard’s website right now, you will be able to see Wonder Girls’ “Nobody” ranked at No. 76 on the Hot 100 chart which lists the top 100 singles in the United States, regardless of genre. It is one of Billboard’s two most important and influential charts, alongside the Billboard 200 chart, which are also the most difficult to enter.

Last week, the Korean pop quintet became the first Asian artist in 30 years and the first Korean artist ever to place on the chart. It paid off performing in 42 cities over two months as the opening act for the U.S. leg of the Jonas Brothers’ world tour, making efforts to bond with fans for hours before and after each performances and cram studying half a dozen hours of English everyday. [NEWS] Wonder Girls to Release Mandarin Version of ‘Nobody’, Wyeing Chinese Market

South Korea’s Wonder Girls made history this week by becoming the first Korean singers to chart on the United States’ Billboard Hot 100, and the pop group is eyeing the lucrative Chinese market next.

The girl band’s hit single “Nobody” entered the chart at number 76, putting them ahead of Carrie Underwood (#77), Five for Fighting (#83) and Usher (#92).

The Wonder Girls, who are the first Korean artistes to enter into the American Billboard main singles chart top 100, will perform on stage after 7 months in Korea.

Coming 23rd October, the girls will be holding a press conference in a club in Seoul KangNam. Currently the girls are already back in Korea and are resting. A JYP representative said on a phone interview on 21st, “There will be a press interview on 23rd October. They will talk about their feelings about hitting into the Billboard chart and their American promotions.”

Korean pop group Wonder Girls have become the first Korean artists to enter the Billboard singles chart, according to their agency JYP Entertainment on Thursday.

The group’s single “Nobody” entered the Billboard Hot100 at No. 76, the first time for a Korean artist to be placed on the chart in its 115-year history. Only three other artists from Asia as a whole have ever made it onto the chart.

Idol group the Wonder Girls may be working its magic in the United States, becoming the first Korean group to enter the rotation playlists of some of the top 40 American radio stations, according to their agency on Tuesday.

“Of the 167 ‘Top40 Radio Stations’ located throughout major U.S. cities, their U.S. debut single ‘Nobody’ has entered the rotation playlists of 18 stations,” said JYP Entertainment.
