[NEWS] The Disappearance of Ballads in Kpop
29 07 2009

In Korea, the song genre “Ballad” has literally disappeared from sight. Instead dance music has been dominating the kpop industry especially this summer.
Ballads have long disappeared from music charts and record sales charts. Music sites such as melons, Mnet, Bugs top 20 ranked songs have only 2 ballads. The same goes for sales. Aggregate sales as seen in Hanteo album charts has been dominated by 2NE1, Drunken Tiger, Epik high, MC Mong, FT Island, Brown Eyed Girls and Girls’ Generation.
This phenomenon has been continuing since the beginning of the year. This year, the popular genre of music is hiphop and dance music. Popular songs in 2009 include So Nyeo Shi Dae’s “Gee” and “Tell Me Your Wish”, Davichi’s “8282″, Super Junior’s “Sorry Sorry”, Big Bang & 2NE1’s “Lollipop”, 2NE1’s “Fire” and “I Don’t Care”, MC Mong’s “Indian Boy” and Outsider’s “Alone”.

[NEWS] Girls’ Generation’s Soo Young Gets Proposed To
27 07 2009
Yamaguchi, whose wish is to marry a Korean woman, appeared on Star King and took the stage. In slow Korean, he said “Korean woman pretty, please marry me. I want to follow the singer Kim Jung Min who married a Japanese woman, so I ate wasabi and practiced my singing.” For his performance, Yamaguchi turned Girls’ Generation’s ‘Tell Me Your Wish’ into a Kim Jung Min rock version. After finishing the song, Yamaguchi said “I have an ace in the whole and approached the Girls’ Generation members who were sitting on the panel. He took out his ace in the hole (a diamond ring, no less), knelt on the ground, and to everyone’s surprise, proposed to Soo Young.
However, Soo Young obviously said no saying “This is a precious ring that you have brought from Japan, so please find your perfect girl and place that ring on her finger.” Yamaguchi seemed shocked by the refusal and offered the ring to 2PM’s Nichkhun which caused everyone to laugh. It’s obvious that the guy was joking about Nichkhun at least, but still, I guess you never know, right? Yamaguchi ended his segment with these parting words “I want to go tour places where there is a lot of Korean women, like Apgujong“

[NEWS] SNSD Tiffany and Yuri To Host Music Core
28 03 2009
It was announced at the end of today’s MBC Music Core that Girls’ Generation members Tiffany and Yuri (yeah!) will become the new MCs starting from next week, 4th April.
Daesung and Seungri (Big Bang) have been hosting Music Core with Solbi for the past 10 months since May 2008 so it’s a pity seeing them leaving as MCs after building up a good rapport with each other, bringing a lively and bubbly personality to the show. The change in MCs was part of MBC’s spring organization to bring a different atmosphere and also because of their own solo activities which clashed with the hosting schedule.

So even though Girls’ Generation will be concluding their Gee promotions after their final performance on Inkigayo tomorrow afternoon, the confirmation of Yuri and Tiffany as the new MCs of Music Core will be of much delight to their fans. Tiffany and Yuri came out at the end and handed flower bouquets to the 3 outgoing MCs in a simple hand-over ceremony with Solbi getting emotional and in tears. Daesung and Seungri meanwhile maintained their cheerful and strong side, asking Solbi not to cry.

[NEWS] Davichi: “There Are Times When We Are Envious of SNSD”
21 03 2009
Korean girl pop duo Davichi, who first rose to fame with popular hit songs such as “I Love You Even Though I Hate You”, “Sad Promise” and “Love and War”, has recently released their mini album after almost a year. The mini album titled “Davichi in Wonderland” includes songs such as “8282″ and “I Made an Accident”, and just like their song names, it seems almost accidental that the mini album has been gaining widespread popularity in 2009.
Davichi, who officially debuted in 2008 with the release of their first album “Amaranth”, has garnered lots of attention as an example of a successful female group with their striking appearances and powerful vocals. They then attracted the attention of many people as rising stars when they won various Best Newcomer awards last year.

[NEWS] SuJu RyeoWook Keen to Write Song for SNSD
20 03 2009
Super Junior’s Ryeowook expressed his wish to offer a self-composed song to SNSD’s Taeyeon.
In a recent interview with No Cut News, Ryeowook said : “Because at school (Inha University Drama and Film Studies) I study composition, I’m writing a lot of songs. Although talent-wise, the songs aren’t worthy enough to be featured in an album yet, I want them to be listed in our album in the future, or in other SM family artists. In particular, I want to give one to SNSD Taeyeon the most.”
As Ryeowook was struck by shyness after saying those words, he made the members of Super Junior who were present burst out laughing. Super Junior suggested that “Ryeowook liked the S.E.S. nunas since before debut, he was influenced to write songs suitable for girls. He especially likes Bada nuna’s vocals.”
Ryeowook has also composed the melody and wrote the lyrics for the logo songs of the other member’s radio programs for free. Ryeowook showed a humble image saying “I still lack talent, but I wanted to work to help the members, so I made the logo songs”
